3G iPhone Improvements
The Apple iPhone is a great device for the casual user, however it drew some criticism for it's 2G capabilities, non-universal headphone jack, slow speed, price, contract, and lack of features when compared to other devices being released. This criticism was definitely valid, as the design of the phone was great, but the specifics could be improved. Regardless, Apple's iPhone sold faster than it could ship, drawing lines of hundreds of people to get their hands on the phone.
The company promised 3G compatibility was coming, but it was unclear when, with come predicting 60 days, and some predicting as much as a year. Well it turns out that the answer was closer to the latter, but that it looks like it's been well worth the wait. Steve Jobs unveiled the 3G iPhone at the worldwide developer's conference to resounding applause, also stating that the device would hit stores on July 11th. The 3G iPhone improves upon the first generation of iPhones in several ways. For starters, cosmetically there are two looks, a white and a black. The black version comes in a 8 gig and 16 gig version, with the white coming in 16 gig only.
The original iPhone came only as a 6 gig black device, so the storage space and look have improved with the new model. Another improvement is the inclusion of a non-recessed headphone jack that allows you to use any kind of headphones right out of the box, the new device is also a bit thinner. Obviously the biggest improvement is the fact that the phone is a 3G device. This means a considerable increase in speed and productivity, with near wi-fi like transfer speeds. A vast improvement over the slow speeds of the EDGE network. The phone will also cost less, a mere $199, this is being called into question, however, as some people claim that the fees outside of the purchase price will drive the total cost up to around what it's predecessor sold for. Last but not least, the phone has assisted GPS functionality, so that you can use it to get directions an check out maps.
