Hacking the iPhone?
The iPhone is a gadget that has consumers clamoring. The device is a great little machine that can do a lot of things in a small package. The vibrant touch display, the safari access, the youtube functionality, and all of the other little things that go into the iPhone are very impressive. Then there's the downside. The phone was slow, for starters, running on AT&T's sub-par EDGE network.
This was a big downside for a device with so much potential. The other problem was that the phone came locked to AT&T, and had to be activated by AT&T before it could be used. All of this made the iPhone almost perfect, but still kept it from truly doing something great. The new iPhone is on it's way, and promises to offer fast the speeds via it's new 3G design. This is great news for iPhone users and potential customers, but there's still fun stuff you can do with your current phone. Hackers came up with various ways to bypass the phone's requirements, and do various cool things with the phone. For starters, some people claimed they could unlock the iPhone, however no solid method of doing so has been proven by and large. Also, some people claimed to be able to bypass the activation requirements on the device.
This allowed the users to get to the phone's features without requiring activation from AT&T. Once again, only a few people claimed to actually be able to do this, and the methods were never entirely proven. The other interesting use for hacks is to get 3rd party apps not normally supported by the phone onto the device. From games to radios there are a variety of apps that can be added this way. It is important to note, however, that hacking your iPhone will most likely void the warranty, and if you break it you'll be on your own. So think twice before you play with the insides of this expensive toy. If you have the know how, however, hacking can be a fun way to get more out of your phone.
