Review of the original iPhone
Apple has long been a leader in creating attractive hardware for nearly every market. From their desktops to their laptops, to their MP3 players, they have been at the cutting edge of technology for years. That is what makes the iPhone so peculiar. The knee jerk reaction is that it's an amazing device that can do anything, but you have to look at it as a piece of hardware in a very competitive market.
While they may not have marketing platforms that are as good as Apple, there are a lot of phones out there that can do everything the iPhone can, and quite frankly, the iPhone is a little late to the party. This didn't stop consumers from going nuts over the device, and the gimmicks it carried gave it a cool look and feel. No one is arguing that the iPhone isn't stylish, it definitely is, it may be the most stylish phone out there. It has a beautiful touch screen, and sleek look, and a really cool interface. The touch and drag interface really does wonders, allowing you to get a great look at web pages and flip through your music with ease. However, if you don't own a pair of Apple headphones or an adapter, you wont be listening to music on your iPhone any time soon. The other major problem with the device is it's speed.
This is a $400 phone, most phones in this price range are 3G, and they are fast. The original iPhone, however, is a 2G device. This means that it does not load pages at the speeds you would expect from such an attractive little toy. This is really the main downfall of the system, but the AT&T lock is also a turn off. If you don't have AT&T you won't be using the iPhone any time soon, sorry! But for all it's faults, the iPhone is a really fun device that can do some neat things, is it worth the price? I don't think so, but you just might, so try one out, give it a spin, see if it's for you. My advice, wait for the 3G version to hit stores in July.
